Some frequent glazing defects such as crazing are caused by an inadequate state of tension between the glaze and the ceramic body which is strongly related to various parameters. The most important are the coefficients of thermal expansion of glaze and body, their coupling temperature and the softening temperature of the glaze. ln this work, a novel optical technique is proposed with the purpose to investigate the state of tension of glazed bodies and prevent the compatibility defects mentioned above.
